Fire suppression

Fire suppression is the operation that most people associate the fire department with, and our department responds to any type of fire - building, vehicle, outside vegetation, etc. Once on scene, we attempt to confine the fire, extinguish it, salvage undamaged property, and inspect the fire scene to prevent rekindle.

Fire suppression apparatus includes two pumpers, Engines 362 and 364, and a tower ladder, Truck 369. Our rescue unit, Rescue 368, and quick response/utility truck 367 also carry limited suppression equipment and assist at fire scenes.

Emergency Medical Services

EMS requests are the most common calls Belle Valley Volunteer Fire Department responds to, with calls for falls, cardiac arrest, injuries, breathing problems and more.

Our volunteers with emergency medical training treat patients at the scene with our partner, Millcreek Paramedic Service. MPS is then responsible for paramedic treatment and transport to local hospitals. All apparatus has medical gear on board but our primary EMS unit is our quick response vehicle - Utility 367.

Vehicle accidents and rescue

We respond to any calls for a motor vehicle accident, providing fire suppression, vehicle rescue, emergency medical services, traffic control and cleanup at the scene.

In the event that a person is entrapped in/on/under a vehicle, our department will handle extrications using equipment such as Hurst tools ("jaws of life"), air bags, power saws and hand tools. Vehicle rescue apparatus include our heavy rescue truck 368.

Technical rescues

These incidents require specialized equipment and training to extricate a trapped person from a variety of circumstances. These include rope rescues, confined space rescues, trench rescues and building collapses. Each situtation presents various risks and requires equipment such as rappelling equipment, stokes baskets, air shores, wood shores or planks, Hurst tools, air bags, power tools and pneumatic tools. Technical rescue equipment is located on the heavy rescue truck and the tower ladder.
